Intimate Encounters was a performance and garment series which mapped the poetic nature of everyday intimacies. Created in response to observing interactions between people in the community of Prato, Italy, in collaboration with Isabella Webb and Margot Lapalus.


A paper garment was designed to act as a device for mapping greetings. The gestures (handshake, hug, kiss) were performed in a measured series of cycles, with onlookers invited to participate. The rigidity of the garment was diminished as the physical barriers were broken down between the performers and participants.
